Las Olas Isles — Fort Lauderdale's millionaires' row — is the centrepiece of every sunset boat cruise here. These finger islands along the intracoastal waterway hold some of the most expensive waterfront homes in South Florida, and the only way to take in these breathtaking views properly is from the water.
Expect massive mega yachts and private vessels moored at the docks, estates owned by celebrities and Fortune 500 executives, and architectural styles ranging from Venetian palazzo to ultra-modern glass. The homes and mega yachts along the route are genuinely spectacular — your captain narrates who lives in each mansion and what they paid. The Carrie B paddlewheeler provides the most detailed narrated history; the catamaran and BYOB cruise party boat give you longer time exploring the intracoastal; the Sea Rocket covers the most ground in the least time.
For views of Fort Lauderdale's waterfront from the best seat in town, any of these boat tours deliver — but the catamaran pushes out to the Atlantic for an entirely different perspective on the city skyline.
Beyond millionaires' row, every Fort Lauderdale sunset cruise boat ride passes several key landmarks. This is a guided tour of the city from the water — a vantage point most visitors never reach:
Fort Lauderdale sunset boat tours split into two categories: shared group cruises (6–45 people) and fully private charters. Here's how they differ:
Shared group boat cruise — most of the six tours on this page. You board with other travelers, get a guided tour past the mansions and port, and pay per person. The experience ranges from a relaxed sightseeing cruise (Carrie B, Sea Rocket) to an all-out boat party with BYOB and dancing (Evening Party Boat).
Fort Lauderdale private charters — you hire the whole boat for your group only. No strangers. The captain adjusts the route and pace to your preferences. The private sunset cruise (tour-3) departs from Key Biscayne and passes Fisher Island, making it one of the most scenic private boat ride options near Fort Lauderdale. At $430 for the whole boat, it works out to $85–145 per person for groups of 3–5, which is a reasonable trade for total privacy on an unforgettable evening.
Fort Lauderdale sunset cruises run year-round. The sightseeing and scenery don't change season to season — you'll get Millionaires Row, Port Everglades, and the same intracoastal waterway regardless of month. What does change is the timing of sunset and the crowd levels.
Sunset in Fort Lauderdale ranges from around 5:30 PM in December to around 8:15 PM in June and July. Most boats schedule their departure to put you on the water 30–45 minutes before sunset and keep you out for the golden hour and dusk. Check each operator's schedule and departure time for the specific date you're going — Viator shows live departure slots.
Crowd levels are highest from December through March (snowbird season and spring break) and in July. Shoulder months like May, June, September and October see smaller groups on the same boats, with the same scenery and often lower demand for popular time slots.
| Month | Sunset approx. | Crowds | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dec–Feb | 5:30–6:00 PM | High | Snowbird season — book ahead |
| Mar–Apr | 7:00–7:30 PM | Very high | Spring break — sell out weeks early |
| May–Jun | 7:45–8:15 PM | Moderate | Long golden hour, fewer crowds |
| Jul–Aug | 8:00–8:15 PM | Moderate | Peak summer, afternoon thunderstorms possible |
| Sep–Oct | 7:00–7:30 PM | Low | Best availability, warm water |
| Nov | 5:45–6:15 PM | Low–Medium | Good shoulder season pricing |
Most of these tours are 1–2 hours and depart from Bahia Mar Marina or nearby docks — you don't need to pack heavily. A few things that make the experience better:

The Sunset Catamaran Cruise (tour-2) is consistently the highest-rated option — 4.8★ across 701 reviews, with champagne included, sails-up on the Atlantic Ocean, and the full Millionaires Row route. It's the most complete sunset experience. The Carrie B Paddlewheeler (tour-6) is the most-reviewed at 2,205 reviews and offers the most detailed narrated history, while the Evening Party Boat (tour-1) is the best value for groups who want music and BYOB. Read the catamaran cruise guide for a full breakdown of what's included and how to book.
Fort Lauderdale sunset cruises range from $29.99 per person (Sea Rocket speedboat, 1 hour) to $129 per person (Catamaran with champagne, 2 hours) for shared tours. Private charters start at $430 for the whole boat. The Carrie B Paddlewheeler at $32 per person is the best value for a narrated 90-minute sightseeing cruise. For a premium experience, see the champagne sunset cruise guide with full pricing details and what to expect.
Yes — the Evening Boat Cruise (tour-1) is fully BYOB. Bring any food and drinks you like; coolers and bottled water are provided on board. The Catamaran (tour-2) has a cash bar with beer and wine for $5 each and includes a complimentary glass of champagne. Outside alcohol is not permitted on the catamaran. The Carrie B and Sea Rocket also have on-board bars. See the champagne sunset cruise full guide for the catamaran's drinks policy and what to bring.
Most tours run 90 minutes to 2 hours. The Sea Rocket is the shortest at 1 hour; the Carrie B runs 90 minutes; the Catamaran and Party Boat both run approximately 2 hours. Private charters are typically 2 hours and can be customized.
Every tour passes some combination of: Millionaires Row and Las Olas Isles (celebrity and billionaire waterfront estates), Port Everglades (cruise ships up close), Las Olas Boulevard, the downtown Fort Lauderdale skyline, Bahia Mar Marina (megayachts), and the Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal Waterway canals. The Carrie B also covers the New River. The Catamaran goes out to the Atlantic Ocean for the sail and sunset.
Yes — most tours are family-friendly. The Carrie B Paddlewheeler and the Sea Rocket are the calmest and most kid-appropriate. The Catamaran goes out to the Atlantic Ocean where there can be some wave motion, so it's better for older kids (8+). The Evening Party Boat is a lively adult atmosphere but technically allows all ages. Children 12 and under must wear life jackets during the sailing portion on the catamaran. For a private experience with the whole boat to yourselves, see the private sunset charter guide which is ideal for family groups.
Most tours depart from Bahia Mar Marina at 801 Seabreeze Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, close to Fort Lauderdale Beach. The Catamaran departs from the Spirit of Lauderdale dock — check in at the Tropical Sailing kiosk inside the Market Deli, one hour before departure. Exact meeting points are confirmed in your booking email.
Absolutely. Port Everglades is one of the busiest cruise terminals in the world, and it sits right on the intracoastal. The Carrie B Paddlewheeler and Sea Rocket are both popular cruise-passenger excursions and depart near the port. Give the operator your ship name and re-boarding time when booking.
Yes — the Sunset Catamaran Cruise (tour-2) includes a complimentary glass of champagne on the return sail. It's the only shared tour that includes champagne in the base price. The catamaran also has a cash bar with beer and wine for $5 each. Private charters can arrange custom catering including premium bottles on request. The champagne catamaran cruise guide covers what's included, the sailing route, and how it differs from the party-boat experience.
Yes — the Carrie B Paddlewheeler runs a 90-minute narrated cruise along the New River, Intracoastal Waterway, and Port Everglades for $32 per person. It's Fort Lauderdale's longest-running boat tour and its most-reviewed cruise with 2,205 verified ratings. For a shorter option, the Sea Rocket speedboat runs a 60-minute intracoastal cruise from $29.99. Both are great for cruise-ship passengers who want a quick, affordable Fort Lauderdale sightseeing experience.
Yes — the Evening Boat Cruise (tour-1, from $55) runs as a full boat party with BYOB drinks, party music the entire trip, and a high-energy atmosphere that includes dancing. Guests sip cocktails of their choice while cruising past downtown Fort Lauderdale, Port Everglades, and Las Olas. Afternoon departures stop at the legendary sandbar in front of Millionaire's-mile for a swim. If you want a calmer guided tour, the Carrie B paddlewheeler or the sunset dinner cruise are better fits for a more relaxed evening on the water.
Most are. Four of the six tours on this page carry 4.5★ or higher across thousands of verified Viator reviews. The Sunset Catamaran (4.8★, 701 reviews) and the private charter (5.0★, 26 reviews) are the highest rated. The Carrie B Paddlewheeler is the most-reviewed at 2,205 reviews and 4.5★ — making it Fort Lauderdale's premier sightseeing boat cruise by volume. All tours include free cancellation, so there's no risk to booking the top-rated option for your date.
This excursion was the highlight of our trip! Ross was hilarious and very knowledgeable. The 2 hours went by way too quickly! We went on the sunset cruise and adored the warm and breezy weather that accompanied the gorgeous sunset and cityscape from our vantage point on the water. Overall was our Ft. Lauderdale fave!
This was amazing. Justin and Captain Joe were the best. We met some fellow MN residents on this excursion. Captain Joe spent time showing a girl sailing tips. She was beaming and that was fun to watch. Justin was awesome with his knowledge of the area. Highly recommend. The sunset was perfect. Thank you!!
The cruise was outstanding, cruising the ICW and all the way into downtown, very affordable and great value, and BYOB is great, crew was great and entertaining, the sunset and night cruise downtown was nothing short of spectacular. I would highly recommend to anyone for an excellent boat trip on a budget.
Being on the water especially at night is wonderful. All the lights on the properties make for a beautiful scenic experience. The crew is funny and engaging while providing interesting facts about different properties and their owners.
